The 1980’s saw an emergence of many designers; Peter Morrissey began his career at this time and together with Leona Edmiston, launched a collaborative label ‘Morrissey Edmiston’. Later the two designers split and this in turn led Morrissey to begin his solo career under his own name. His entrepreneurial business sense led him to design for a range of companies, including Qantas. This involved the design of the new uniforms, which true to the Morrissey style were sleek, sexy and “very exciting”. His involvement in the Oroton Group, led him to manage several fashion brands, thus playing a vital role in the development of Australian fashion. Morrissey is fundamentally about the celebration of life through a sensual exploration of colour, texture and form. His new collection embodies this design philosophy and is described as a night out on the town for affluent sophisticated women. Yet despite his love of the female form, Morrissey also specializes in creating unique male ranges. Generally not of the traditional style, the latest 2008 collection is described as clean cut, which is a divergence from the wilder shows of the past. The vision of the new collection aims to focus its attention on a professional market through the use of slim cuts in a variety of European fabrics. The collection is versatile and slightly more sedate that previous collections, illustrating that Morrissey style is continuing to adapt to a changing culture. |
